Scorpius Dance Theatre Presents 14th Season of Annual Fall Haunt

Lisa Starry's "A Vampire Tale"

This fall season, from October 26 to November 4, 2017, Scorpius Dance Theatre presents its popular production, A Vampire Tale. Dubbed “’The ‘Nutcracker’ of Halloween,” the yearly haunt is celebrating a return to its roots at the Phoenix Theatre’s Hardes Theatre, the original birthplace of the production. A more intimate venue, Hardes Theatre allows greater interaction with the audience and performers, creating a more engaging experience.

Additionally, for the first time in A Vampire Tale’s history, the vampires will rise from their coffins during the day with two special matinee shows.

A Vampire Tale indulges audiences with all the trimmings: dark and sexy drama, quirky and comedic episodes, and visually stunning dance and aerial feats. This popular, sell-out production pre-dates all of the vampire pop-culture and evolves annually to keep fans coming back for more. In the plot line of A Vampire Tale, a young woman is drawn to the dark side and finds herself lured into an assorted band of bloodsuckers. Frightened yet fascinated by their shadowy showmanship and seductive moves, the girl struggles to avoid becoming part of their underworld when she becomes infatuated with the King vampire.

According to Choreographer, Lisa Starry, “We have missed performing at the Hardes Theatre, and we’re looking forward to reliving the early days when the audience felt as if they were part of the production.”

A Vampire Tale showcases 17 performers. Gavin Sisson and Nicole Olson return to the stage in there lead roles as the Vampire King and Queen. Martha Hernandez, will return for the second year in the role of the Innocent. Also returning, Louis Farber, will play the side-splitting narrator role of Strange Man. Farber is a well-known Valley actor and director, as well as the associate artistic director for Stray Cat Theatre. A Vampire Tale’s all-original soundtrack is composed by local musician, Kristofer Hill.

A Vampire Tale runs for two weekends:

October 26 & 27 at 7:30 p.m.

October 28 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

November 2 & 3 at 7:30 p.m.

On Halloween night, October 31, Scorpius Dance Theatre will present a special fundraising performance and reception. This unique rendition of A Vampire Tale will feature highlights from the show, plus a humorous twist to the plotline. A  play on the spoof nights commonly found with annual traditions, such as The Nutcracker, this special fundraising night is our chance to mix it up, have fun with the show, and make our fans laugh. This one night only performance will feature a battle of the queens led by Gavin Sisson as drag queen, Stella, and Nicole Olson as the Vampire Queen.

A queen at improvisation, Nicole has performed the lead role of the Vampire Queen since the show originated 14 years ago. She has gained a loyal following, wowing audiences with her intensity and technical dance skill. Known for various roles within the production, for the past three years, Gavin has been featured as the Vampire King. In addition to his work with Scorpius, he’s an award-winning drag performer. Recent honors include the Grand Champion Mirror Ball and People’s Choice Trophy at the Dancing for a One-n-Ten Fundraiser.
