Scorpius Dance Theatre's Director/Choreographer, Lisa Starry, is staging a unique dance showcase promoting up-and-coming dance makers! We invite talented choreographers from all over the US to submit their most outstanding repertory. Get in on this inaugural event! It is Ms. Starry’s objective to bring attention to the phenomenal Arizona dance scene!! L.A. and N.Y.C. have Carnival: Choreographers Ball...AZ has KICK-A!
How to submit choreography...
Complete the ENTRY FORM and mail with your DVD to Scorpius Dance Theatre -- 1700 N 7th Ave, Phoenix Az 85007
DEADLINE FOR DVD ENTRY: April 7, 2012
IF DVD SUBMISSION IS NOT POSSIBLE, THERE IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR LIVE AUDITION:
Saturday, April 7 -- 4 - 8p (Please call 602-258-9511 to schedule a time slot no later than April 5.)
SUBMISSION FEE: $25 per piece, paid to Scorpius Dance Theatre
ACCEPTED DANCE STYLES: Contemporary, Modern or Hip Hop ONLY
DANCE LENGTH: Maximum 6 minutes (Oh...and it must kick ass!!)
AGE REQUIREMENTS: All participating choreographers and their dancers must be 18 years or older
Definition of “Kick-Ass”: Choreography that Lisa Starry deems to be really great. Better than awesome. Must be SERIOUSLY amazing.
What you get out of it...
Not only will your work be featured in a first-rate, professional showcase but selected choreographers will also receive 2 comp tickets for their participation. Choreographers will be included in all KICK-A marketing and press materials from April-May, 2012.
ADDITIONAL INFO + REQUIREMENTS
-- Selected choreographers will be notified by April 13, 2012
-- Applicants and their performers must be at least 18 years old
-- Choreographers are responsible for dancers, costumes, music, music licensing, accommodations, as well as any special lighting/technical needs if beyond what Scorpius is providing (a tech rider will be available to all accepted choreographers by April 13, 2012)
-- Out-of-state choreographers will be responsible for their own travel and accommodations
-- Chosen works must not be performed in Arizona at least 6 months prior to the KICK-A performance dates
-- All performers and choreographers must be able to commit to tech and dress rehearsals the week prior to the performance dates
